Poll: One in four small businesses at risk of permanently closing

Twenty-four percent of small businesses are two months away from closing permanently amid the economic crisis caused by COVID-19, according to a U.S. Chamber of Commerce and MetLife poll taken last week.

The poll also revealed that one in 10 of small businesses are less than a month away from permanently closing. Key findings show that 24 percent of small businesses have shut down temporarily, and among those that haven’t, 40 percent may do so within the next two weeks.

The poll also revealed that small businesses are most favorable toward financial assistance in the form of direct cash payments (56 percent), while 30 percent prefer SBA disaster loans.
