Partnership helps Madison festival accessibility

Community organizations and the city of Madison are assisting local festivals to be more accessible for people with disabilities, according to a joint release from Access to Independence, Downtown Madison Inc., and the city. The groups released the Madison Festivals and Events Accessibility Guide, which assists event organizers with creating and implementing a comprehensive accessibility plan for their events. Going beyond the Americans with Disability Act, the guide includes best practice recommendations to help make events more inclusive for people with disabilities. The partners are also offering free training. In 2021, the Madison Parks Department began requiring festival applicants to include an accessibility plan as part of the permit application.
