Parisi presents 2018 county budget
Dane County Executive Joe Parisi unveiled his 2018 budget. Parisi is proposing a $537 million operating budget and a $112 million capital budget that will increase taxes by $54.74 for the average ($269,377) Madison home, or 15% of an individual’s property tax bill, according to The Capital Times.
Changes and upgrades to the Dane County jail — including consolidating three existing jail facilities into a smaller jail — account for $75 million of the budget.
Also included is $175,000 in operational funding for The Beacon, the new homeless day resource center at 615 E. Washington Ave., and other programs devoted to mental health services.
Parisi has also included money for road improvements, such as Fish Hatchery Road from the Beltline south to McKee Road, and working with the city of Verona to expand Highway PD to four lanes from Woods Road to Highway M.
The Dane County Board of Supervisors will debate the budget in late November.
