Parisi, Kwik Trip announce CNG deal

A Dane County partnership with Kwik Trip will ensure that the La Crosse-based retailer becomes one of the primary dispensers of compressed natural gas (CNG).

According to an article in the Stoughton Courier Hub, the $28 million program will allow the Dane County landfill to make CNG from methane created at the site, and inject it into an interstate transmission pipeline. Methane that is compressed into CNG puts out significantly fewer emissions than gasoline or diesel fuels.

The agreement was announced by Dane County Executive Joe Parisi and will allow CNG-enabled vehicles to fuel up at Kwik Trips around the state. The partnership is regulated by the Environment Protection Agency’s Renewable Fuel Standard program and is expected to pay for itself within a few years through EPA funds and revenue from fuel sales.
