Oversight threatens homeless facility’s opening

October’s opening of the Beacon, a day resource center for the homeless that is being supported by the city, county, and United Way, could be delayed due to a funding matter.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, none of the funders previously noticed that Catholic Charities Madison, operator of the center at 615 E. Washington Ave., projected a $200,000 operating increase between 2017 and 2018. Now they are scrambling to find the extra money.

Jackson Fonder, president and CEO at Catholic Charities, hopes the matter is settled by mid-September.

The Beacon will operate seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
