Oscar Mireles to be inducted into Racine Horlick High School’s Hall of Fame

Madison-area Latino leader Oscar Mireles will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at Racine Horlick High School, his alma mater, on May 17 during this year’s Senior Awards Banquet, according to Madison365.

The distinction recognizes Mireles as a Horlick alumnus who has played a crucial role in society. He is currently the executive director and principal of Omega School, an alternative education center on Madison’s south side.

He is Madison’s first Latino poet laureate and the founder of Latinos Organizing for Understanding and Development. Mireles also published three anthologies, titled I Didn’t Know There Were Latinos in Wisconsin, as well as a children’s book and a poetry chapbook.
