Online HR company leaves companies scrambling

More than 180 businesses, including about 20 in Dane County, are scrambling upon the news that their online payroll company, MyPayrollHR, didn’t make proper employee wage payments collectively totaling $1 million, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. MyPayrollHR owner Michael Mann has admitted to embezzling $70 million, resulting in insufficient direct deposits across the country. The now closed business once serviced over 1,000 U.S. businesses.

Wisconsin’s Department of Revenue Secretary Peter Barca says the department is working with business owners to see how many companies were late on their October payments and to try to get any small business tax penalties or late fees waived if not already rectified, and some deadlines have been extended.
