Olbrich beer garden gets Parks approval

The Madison Parks Commission approved a privately run German-style beer garden with outdoor seating for part of the Olbrich Park Beach House, despite concerns raised by nearby residents.

The proposal, from developer BKM Group, would operate up to 51 hours a week and last call would occur at 9 p.m. Capacity would be 240 people, which is down from 300, though not nearly enough for some opponents who wanted to cap it at 150.

The city’s Alcohol License Review Committee will consider the proposal on Feb. 15. If approved, it moves on to the City Council. If the Council approves, the beer garden could begin operations this summer through 2019 with two two-year extensions possible, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
