Nonprofit law group formed to counterbalance conservatives
Madison law firm partners Doug Poland and Jeff Mandell have launched Law Forward, a nonprofit firm focused on redistricting and election litigation, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report.
As the state considers a new round of redistricting next year and challenges in the courts are likely, Law Forward is preparing to be involved. Legislative and congressional districts will need to be redrawn to account for population changes and how districts are determined can greatly favor one party over the other. Law Forward will serve as a counterbalance to the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL), which has led conservative efforts in the Wisconsin courts.
This fall, Law Forward is working on issues affecting anyone facing trouble in casting a ballot. In the future, Law Forward expects to address legal issues that affect groups focused on LGBTQ rights, abortion access, and the environment.
