Nonprofit Capital Area Pickleball Association’s first tournament set for late August

The Capital Area Pickleball Association, a rapidly expanding nonprofit Dane County group, offering lessons and events in Dane County for the sport, will host its first annual tournament Aug. 18–20 in Fitchburg, according to The Capital Times.

The nonprofit partnered with the Fitchburg Chamber Visitor + Business Bureau to organize the three-day, volunteer-run tournament, which will take place at McGaw Park at 5236 Lacy Rd. Over 200 participants will compete in teams of two players each. Games begin at 9 a.m. each day, with the last games starting at 4 p.m. The tournament’s six divisions include men’s, women’s, and mixed teams, each divided into an 18–54 age bracket and a 55+ age bracket.

To participate, players must join the Pickleball Association and pay a fee to enter one division, with additional fees for any other divisions in which they wish to compete. Proceeds will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.

Music and food from four different food trucks will also be featured at the event.
