New MATC campus on fast track

The future completion of a new South Campus for Madison College is in sight thanks to a $3 million pledge from Great Lakes Higher Education Corp. for phase II, which will increase the new campus’ space to 45,000 square feet and include community meeting spaces, additional classrooms, and support services. In addition, Great Lakes announced a $3.5 million matching grant for the final, third phase of the project, which will expand the total campus to include 75,000 square feet with more classrooms, meetings spaces, community access to social services, and community based organizations.

Phase I was announced in August and includes the purchase of the site currently occupied by the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds at the intersection of Badger Road and Park Street in Madison. The Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Foundation stepped up to the plate offering $10 million and the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation promised $1.5 million more.

But plans for the school’s subsequent phases were to be based on funding donations and did not have a specific timeline for completion.

This latest news puts the entire project on the fast track to be completed in 2019 if the community can successfully raise $3.5 million before March 31, 2018. If that occurs, Great Lakes will match the amount dollar for dollar.
