Municipal Building could become part of Judge Doyle Square plans

After narrowly defeating a measure to include the Madison Municipal Building as part of the Judge Doyle Square development project downtown, the Madison City Council reconsidered, adding an amendment allowing for the building’s inclusion in redevelopment plans.

While the request for proposal requires the two groups vying for the project — Hammes Co./Majestic Realty Co. and an alliance of Journeyman Group, Gialamas Co., Marcus Hotels and Resorts, and LZ Ventures — to submit a proposal maintaining the Municipal Building for city office spaces, it also allows the companies to include a portion of the building in hotel plans or propose a separate plan encompassing the entire Municipal Building.
