Monona’s Yahara Commons moves forward

Monona officials are about to launch a huge redevelopment along the Yahara River.

Named Yahara Commons, the $36 million project has received the necessary approvals from the city and the first of three phases could break ground later this year. Galway Companies is handling the redevelopment, which will include demolishing several Monona buildings including the Chase Bank building on West Broadway, the Bridge Lounge, Inland Boat Works, and Global Presence Ministries.

The completed project will add 230 residential units between West Broadway and Bridge Road, 26,000 square feet of commercial space, a 3,000-square-foot public park along the river, and 33,000 square feet of commercial space.

First up: a five-story, 96-unit apartment building, garage, and commercial space, which could be complete by the end of 2018. All phases should be completed at the end of 2022, according to The Capital Times.
