Miron to pay $4M fine to settle federal investigation

Language used in industry-standard contracts at Miron Construction Co., Inc. between 2003 and 2008 reportedly led to issues with how the company billed five Wisconsin school districts for project labor costs.

As a result, Miron has agreed to pay $4 million to settle a federal investigation regarding the billings in a “non-prosecution” agreement. The company also agreed to change accounting firms, alter some contract and accounting practices, and operate under an independent monitor to assure compliance. Neither Miron nor two top executives signing the three-year agreement admit or deny a Statement of Facts presented in the case. Miron Construction employs about 1,200 workers.
