Milwaukee council paves way for Uber, Lyft
The Milwaukee Common Council voted to lift a cap on taxicab permits in a move that should clear the way for ride-sharing services such as Lyft, Inc. and Uber Technologies, Inc., which use mobile apps to book rides.
Some specific rules for cab companies were amended in order to extend the passenger vehicle permitting process to every two years and lessen requirements for certain driver tests. Mobile ride-booking services, in turn, would operate under inspection and licensing requirements and be subject to fines if not found in compliance.
