Middleton ponders bike-sharing system

After contemplating such a move for several years, City of Middleton officials now are giving more serious consideration to adding a BCycle bicycle-sharing system, according to report in the Wisconsin State Journal.

Bike-sharing systems allow riders to rent bikes from docking stations. Mark Opitz, the city’s assistant planning director, says municipal officials are encouraged by what they have seen with bike-sharing programs in other communities, and the city is in the process of determining how the system would be funded.

BCycle is a subsidiary of Waterloo-based Trek and has run a bike-sharing program in Madison since 2011.
