MGE plans wind farm in Iowa

Moving forward on its Energy 2030 framework, Madison Gas & Electric announced plans to construct, own, and operate its largest wind farm to date on a 10-square-mile site in Howard County, Iowa.

Named “Saratoga,” the 66-megawatt farm will have 33 turbines reaching nearly 500 feet in height, 100 feet taller than its Top of Iowa wind farm built in 2008.

If approved, Saratoga could be powering 47,000 homes by the end of 2018.

MGE’s Energy 2030 framework is a pledge to supply 30% of electric sales with renewable resources by 2030, with a milestone goal of 25% by 2025, according to a release.
