Merrimac Ferry opening delayed
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) is uncertain when the Merrimac Ferry will open this season, as reported in an article from the Wisconsin State Journal.
An announcement at 10 a.m. last Tuesday provided notification for motorists of the ferry’s closure. The DOT has cited mechanical issues that caused the boat to stall during crossings as the reason for the closure.
The ferry typically runs 24/7 and is operated by the Columbia County Highway Department. The DOT does not yet have an estimated opening date for the ferry, which is officially known as COLSAC III and connects Highway 113 between Okee in Columbia County and Merrimac in Sauk County.
Alternate routes include Highway 60, Highway 78, Highway 12, and Interstate 90/94. Ferry operations status can be accessed on the DOT website.
