Meriter, UW expand nursing recruitment efforts

UnityPoint Health-Meriter will build a training center and expand efforts to recruit nurses and train other workers, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The facility to boost the health care workforce is named the Jeff Levy Education Center and is supported by a $1.2 million donation by Madison businessman Jeff Levy and gifts through the Meriter Foundation. The center will support nursing education, recruitment, community education, and training of other health workers. It will be located near Todd Drive and the Beltline.

Meanwhile, UW Health will use a “significant donation” from Epic Systems Corp. to expand nursing recruitment and community-based health care apprenticeships. It will create a program to support students through the process of earning a certified nursing assistant credential, followed by an associate degree in nursing and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Participants will have their educational costs covered and be employed at UW Health during the program.
