Madison’s south side may see opening of multiple new groceries this year
A bid by Luna’s Groceries would replace Yue Wah Oriental Foods with a new grocery and restaurant at the Village on Park mall, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. Luna’s original store in the Allied Dunn’s Marsh neighborhood on the southwest side is significantly smaller than the 6,497-square-foot space Yue Wah Oriental Foods space, which will shortly be vacant.
The city’s Community Development Authority, which owns the mall, will be considering a lease with Luna’s at a meeting Thursday afternoon.
Additionally, Maurer’s Urban Market is set to open a new, 24,000-square-foot grocery store in a six-story, mixed-use building under construction at the corner of South Park and Cedar streets. The grocery store will be the anchor commercial tenant in the $42 million Truman Olson redevelopment and will open in late 2023 or early 2024.
