Madison's Schoep’s Ice Cream could be sold after going into receivership

After losing two of its biggest customers, Schoep's Ice Cream Co. Inc. has gone into receivership, according to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

However, attorney Michael Polsky says the 90-year-old Madison business could still be sold, and there are a number of qualified buyers who are interested. Polsky, a Milwaukee-based attorney, has asked a Dane County circuit judge to appoint him as receiver.

Schoep’s, which employs 150 people, had a record year just two years ago, but since losing its two largest customers, it has struggled to rebuild business, says Polsky.

The business is owned by members of the Thomsen family and sells ice cream in all 50 states. It will remain open during the forthcoming legal proceedings.
