Madison’s first permanent men’s homeless shelter planned for Bartillon Drive

Madison’s first permanent men’s homeless shelter is currently being developed by the city and Dane County officials, WKOW reports. The shelter is planned to be built on Bartillon Drive on Madison’s east side, just north of East Washington Avenue.

Prior city shelters have been housed in vacant buildings or church basements; this new building will mark the first specifically designed to provide shelter for people facing homelessness.

The shelter is set to include mental and physical health, housing, and treatment services. The design process will continue throughout this year, and the city will put out bids for construction early next year.
