Madison ranks 6th in unemployment

A new report from Filterbuy looking at which U.S. locations experienced the highest unemployment rates in 2021 has ranked Madison 6th out of midsize metros in the U.S. for the lowest unemployment rate. The average annual unemployment rate in the Madison metro area was 2.8% in 2021. In April 2020, the national unemployment rate rose to 14.7%, the highest it’s been since the Great Depression. However, since then, the national rate has fallen steadily and currently stands below 4%, slightly higher than the pre-pandemic rate of 3.5%.
