Madison Parks and Rec will offer paid lifeguard training

Madison Parks and Recreation officials are offering paid lifeguard certification training to address a statewide shortage, NBC15 reports.

Lifeguards are currently only working at Madison beaches on major holidays; swimmers are liable for themselves. Filling all lifeguarding shifts has been difficult as lifeguards have flexible hours.

The Goodman Pool will be open on June 9. There are multiple rounds of lifeguard training planned throughout the upcoming pool season, and applications are still being accepted.
