Madison makes top list of cities most recovered

In a recent Wallet Hub analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data, Madison has emerged as a top-ranked city weathering the COVID-19 storm when considering unemployment data. The national unemployment rate is currently at 7.9%, which is 46% lower than the peak of 14.7% during the height of the pandemic. Madison’s unemployment rate for September was 4%.

WalletHub compared 180 cities based on three metrics: the change in each city’s unemployment from this year to last year, the change from January to September of this year, and the unemployment rate overall. Madison ranked ninth in the county while Lincoln, Neb. secured the top spot.
