Madison Fire Department may elect to pass on MATC training facility

Madison College recently completed the construction of a $14.2 million protective services building, and now one of its major tenants, the Madison Fire Department, may elect to forgo the site and build its own facility. Plans developed under former Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Fire Chief Debra Amesqua called for the city to contribute $1.4 million to MATC and become a major tenant of the building. But the city’s current fire chief, Steven Davis, now suggests the city use the $1.4 million toward its own facility.

In 2011, the Madison Police Department left MATC for its own training facilities.

A final decision on the fire department’s request will be made by the City Council.
