Madison day care closing
Child Development, Inc., a child care center on the city’s south side, will close next week due to financial debt. The center served close to 40 children from low-income households but struggled to stay afloat, weighted down by a reported $47,000 deficit at the end of last year, $22,000 in back taxes, and a $111,000 bank loan.
Kaleem Caire, former Urban League of Greater Madison president, is considering transforming CDI into a nonprofit preschool named One City Early Learning Center, which he would expand to serve 1,600 children across 10 Dane County locations. The new center could open as soon as Oct. 1, according to reports.
