MABA holds Fall Career Day
The Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) announced it will be hosting its first Fall Career Day on Wednesday, Sept. 28. MABA previously held a career day event at the Madison Area Parade of Homes this past spring, but is holding the fall event to provide students with a more robust opportunity to see all the stages of a residential home build and increase awareness about construction career opportunities. Building industry volunteers will showcase their trade through presentations and hands-on demonstrations at the Terravessa Development in Fitchburg. Attendance was capped for this initial year and registration quickly filled up with over 200 students from 10 local schools expected to attend.
Students will begin at a completed home and discuss the building process with a new home specialist and realtor, then move from land surveying through rough framing to finish carpentry. In total, students will tour eight homes and see demonstrations including concrete foundations, framing and exterior siding, plumbing, drywalling, and trim carpentry.
Nationwide, there are a projected 2.2 million job openings in the construction industry that need to be filled by 2025.
