Lunney Lake Farm County Park tree planting

To help mitigate some of the damage the emerald ash borer has caused on the trees in parks and neighborhoods across the state, Madison Community Foundation made a gift in 2020 of 283 trees in honor of its Legacy Society members. This Legacy Forest, made possible through the Foundation for Dane County Parks, honors the lasting impact Legacy Society members have on the community and beyond.

The majority of the 283 tree plantings took place this fall at parks that were selected due to extreme loss of ash trees because of the emerald ash borer — McCarthy, Token Creek, Lunney Lake Farm, Goodland, Mendota, and CamRock county parks.

Representatives from Madison Community Foundation and the Foundation for Dane County Parks were joined by Dane County Parks staff on Friday, Sept. 17 to plant trees in William G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park in Madison.
