Lindsey K. Yoder, The Blue Book Building & Construction Network

IB’s Professional of the Week is the premier way to meet Dane County’s professionals. This week features Lindsey K. Yoder, franchise owner/regional business manager for Wisconsin, The Blue Book Building & Construction Network.

What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?

When we opened the Wisconsin market in 2015, the “Blue Book” brand wasn’t known like it was in the rest of the country (founded in 1913 in New York). I really didn’t know a ton about the construction industry nor a lot of people from the industry. I took a leap of faith leaving a career in sales and marketing that I was successful in and haven’t looked back. Since 2015, we have created six other franchise regions through Wisconsin and it’s so rewarding to celebrate the success with both our team and our clients.

Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?

My husband, Dan Yoder, who owns Sign Art Studio. The passion he has each and every day, and the dedication to his team, customers, and himself are so admirable. He pushes me to do more both personally and professionally. He inspires me daily and I am one lucky gal.

What has been the high point of your career so far?

I would have to say developing the annual spring event “The Who’s Who in Building and Construction Showcase” for Wisconsin. When we started this tradeshow in 2015, we were thrilled to have 250 people attend. We never imagined it would grow into what is today — this year, we had just over 1,200 contractors show up. Because of the growth, we are now hosting both a spring and fall event each year. It’s really cool to hear from people that because of these events, they met someone they are now doing construction projects with. Also, seeing our “Live with Lindsey” series grow into what it is!

Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?

It is okay to fail and it is okay to be scared — get comfortable being uncomfortable. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so go for it!

What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?

I live just outside of Madison and absolutely love our restaurants, lakes, and parks. No matter which season we are in, you can be sure to find fun things to do. Summer on the lakes is my favorite!

Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?

So, I have this weird thing about me where I remember exact dates and faces. People I know joke that I always say, “Gosh, you look familiar,” to everyone I’m introduced to. Lo and behold, I’m right! It seriously happens all the time. Just last week I was meeting a contractor, he looked familiar, and sure enough about 10 years ago I had met him when he was in the office of another company he had worked for.

What are your guilty pleasures?

I love Christmas music, which means I tend to listen to it year round. In my work, I travel quite a bit throughout the state and there is something about the music that puts me in a great mood. If I’m having a bad day or need a lift, I listen to the Pandora Christmas mix!
