Lasting impressions

Ten professionals and 10 teams are competing in the 2015 Get Fit Challenge. Who will earn the healthiest marks? Follow along on Facebook and then find out at the In Business Expo & Conference on Oct. 21. This week, IB checks in with the team from Community Partnerships Inc., which includes team members Scott Strong, Mercy Greenwald, Carrie Tourek, and Lori Duzan. Stay tuned for future blogs from the team.

Greetings one last time from Team Community Partnerships! It’s hard to believe that six months has passed since our team decided to participate in the IB Get Fit Challenge! We’ve really learned to appreciate the importance of striking that balance between taking care of others and taking care of ourselves, and have also acquired new ways of implementing and maintaining that balance.

For Mercy, routine and consistency have emerged as incredibly important aspects of keeping a work-life balance that includes self-care and healthy living. Learning to take more time for herself and truly appreciating her workout routines have helped to shape a lifestyle that seems more manageable and maintainable. She’s looking forward to continuing this new routine beyond the end of the challenge and have it simply be a regular part of her life.

Lori continues to integrate outside activities into her work and home life. At work, this means offering staff members opportunities to walk during supervision meetings. At home, this means taking a lot of walks and hikes in the nearby parks and bluffs. The transition from fall to winter weather may make this more challenging, so it’s time to get her cross country and downhill skis waxed and ready.

Carrie loves the fall weather, as longer runs seem so much more doable and enjoyable. With this newfound enjoyment for running, Carrie has started her own little running challenge with some friends in order to keep motivated now that the Get Fit Challenge has come to an end.  Carrie continues her daily cardio and strength training routine and enjoys squeezing other activities like hiking and biking into her daily life as a way to stay calm and energized.

Scott plans to continue his exercise routine and healthy eating beyond the Get Fit Challenge.  Having an exercise routine five to six days per week that combines strength and cardio has not only been rewarding but actually fun, and it only occupies 30 to 45 minutes per day. What a great investment of time! He is also looking forward to participating in more charity runs and has his sights set on trying a half marathon and possibly a full marathon at some point, something he never had any desire to do.

Thanks to the In Business Get Fit Challenge and an awesome team at Community Partnerships for helping us build a healthy lifestyle.

All of the Team CP challengers have learned about themselves and have helped to support each other in this endeavor. Many of the changes we’ve made we plan to continue to embrace into the future. And with our team continuing to support and challenge each other, there’s no real end to the Challenge, just a new jumping-off point!
