Largest veterans housing in nation approved for East Wash
The long-discussed future of a former Messner Inc. building at 1326 E. Washington Ave. has been determined.
The Dane County Board unanimously approved what will become the largest housing and services project for veterans in the nation, according to Dane County Executive Joe Parisi in a Wisconsin State Journal report.
Replacing the old Messner building will be a six-story housing development for veterans and their families that will include 50 affordable apartments and nine market-rate units for families.
In a partnership with the nonprofit Dryhootch, veteran services will be offered on the ground level.
Gorman & Co. is the developer and the project should be completed by 2021. For more specific information on the project, click here.
