Kate Dale, Madison Area Sports Commission

IB’s Professional of the Week is the premier way to meet Dane County’s professionals. This week features Kate Dale, senior marketing manager, Madison Area Sports Commission.

What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?

There are so many rewarding parts of my job! I am fortunate enough to market two things that I love — Madison and sports — so that in itself is extremely rewarding. It’s also very gratifying to bring amazing sporting events to Madison and see them come together, from the bid process to the event taking place in Madison. The most challenging part is finding balance and time!

Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?

While cliché, I really look up to my sister, Meg Prestigiacomo (Baird). She’s extremely driven yet manages to balance career, family, and fitness, all with a positive attitude.

What has been the high point of your career so far?

For sure, it has been being a part of the team that brought the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games to Madison! It was an exciting and busy year as we put together the bid to win the games, executed a widespread marketing campaign, and saw the games come to life in its new home of Madison. Next up is another exciting career project — Bucky on Parade!

Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?

Be confident and work hard, but don’t forget to relax and take it all in.

What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?

I absolutely love living, working, and playing in Madison and Dane County! From boating on the lakes, running the trails, cheering for the Badgers, and everything in between, there’s always so much to do that makes it really hard to stay home!

Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?

I may know a thing to two about how to whip up some good meals, and I am bit obsessed about menu planning and trying out new dishes. I love coming home after a long day of work to cook a big dinner for my family and, of course, pour a glass of wine and turn on some tunes to go along with the cooking process!

What are your guilty pleasures?

FISH FRY! There is nothing better than a good old-fashioned Wisconsin fish fry, and I’m fortunate enough to experience them frequently with my Fish Fry Club! We travel around the area to experience and rate — yes, we even have scorecards — fish fry spots.
