Judge Doyle Square may cost $600K more

The city of Madison will likely pay Beitler Real Estate Services of Chicago an additional $600,000 to avoid further delays on the Judge Doyle Square development in downtown Madison.

At issue is a “podium” which will cap a public parking garage and has become the foundation for a new nine-story hotel Beitler is constructing. The podium has been the focal point in a lawsuit Beitler filed against the city earlier this year and later dropped.

The money, an estimate of what Beitler has lost by not beginning the hotel at this point, would transfer development rights, retail space ownership, and private parking over to the city, according to a Capital Times report. The City Council will vote on the matter on Oct. 29 and needs 11 votes to move forward.
