Judge Doyle Square developer sues city
Work on the Judge Doyle Square site continues in downtown Madison despite a federal lawsuit the developer, Beitler Real Estate Services, filed against the city earlier this week.
Beitler claims that the city violated its contract with them and is designing a private portion of the massive development called the “podium,” on its own and without consulting with Beitler.
Earlier this year, the developer informed the city it could no longer finance that portion of the project due to rising costs and asked the city to come up with an additional $11 million. The city agreed.
Beitler’s lawsuit, which apparently has left some city officials perplexed, argues that it “broke its development agreement by pursuing construction of the podium,” without Beitler’s consent, according to a Capital Times report. The city promises to fight back.
