Join IB for a celebration of small business

From the pages of In Business magazine.

Perhaps you’ve already read the feature story, as well as seen the cover of this edition of In Business magazine, but in case you haven’t, IB is extremely excited to unveil the 2018 Dane County Small Business Awards! This is the 36th running of the awards program, but it is a little extra special for IB since it is our very first class of winners after officially taking over full control of this great program.

We’ve been a long-time partner of the Dane County Small Business Awards, so when the UW Small Business Development Center approached us about taking it into the future, it was an easy decision. Small business is the lifeblood of any business community, and that is absolutely the case here in Dane County. Small companies are responsible for hiring the majority of the workforce, and they are vital in bringing growth and innovation to this community. Most importantly, some successful small businesses will eventually turn into medium and large businesses that will attract more bright minds to the Greater Madison area [see Epic Systems, established in 1979].

I ask that you read more about our award recipients in this issue. Our intent was to select five companies from a very strong group of nearly 40 applications. However, the selection process was so difficult that judges decided to include an extra category — a “Legacy Award” winner. All six of the award-winning companies have seen tremendous growth through the years, provide an exceptional workplace environment for their employees, and are active stewards of the community.

After reading about these companies, I encourage you to register for our awards gala event on Wednesday, July 18. It’s an opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate small businesses. If you’ve attended the event in the past, you will notice some changes to the program. Instead of a breakfast, we have moved this to a late afternoon/evening event, which will create more of a celebratory feel by combining the awards program with a networking reception immediately afterwards. We are also moving the event to the Overture Center for the Arts, a beautiful venue that will certainly provide the prestige this iconic event deserves.
