Jason Edge, Class of 2005
IB is celebrating 20 years of the 40 Under 40 in 2020, and will be catching up with past recipients to see what they’ve been up to since they were honored. This week features Jason Edge, owner/chief staffing executive, Prairie Staffing LLC.
What have you accomplished in your professional life/career since your 40 Under 40 selection?
I have gone from working for someone else helping them realize their dreams to making my own dreams come true by launching and sustaining my own successful staffing business, Prairie Staffing, where we provide temporary, temp-to-hire, and direct-hire staffing solutions to businesses all over the Madison area. I get to enjoy the benefits of being a business owner and I still get to help other businesses achieve their goals.
What accomplishments, milestones, or endeavors have you attained in your personal life since your 40 Under 40 selection?
I am now a father of three and I take great pride and joy in my family and everything that they do, including getting ready to send my thespian daughter off to college, watching my son on the football field, and seeing my youngest dance her way into her first school experience, as well as being spontaneous and adventurous with my amazing wife. But I have also taken on some great adventures myself with endurance sports, other business endeavors, and expanding my horizons.
If you were to “do it all over again,” what (if anything) would you do differently throughout your career?
I can’t complain about where I am today, but I would push just a little harder, work on spending more time learning and having new experiences, then utilizing what I have learned to grow myself and my business. One of my biggest regrets is having too much “down time.” By nature I don’t like to sit still, and yet somehow realize I have done a little too much of just that.
How did your 40 Under 40 selection help your career?
Being recognized as a top, young business executive 15 years ago injected some confidence that I am still able to lean on whenever I start to forget or doubt what it is that I am capable of doing. Building a cache of experiences and successes like this have made for a solid support system.
What is something that you have a new passion for since the time of your induction — either professionally or personally?
I spend a ton of time with my wife and three children taking in as many new experiences as I can, but when I am not with them you might catch me out on country roads on my bicycle or cruising in my 1965 Mustang. We also enjoy exploring the great state of Wisconsin and spending time at our home away from home on the south shore of Lake Superior.
Based on your experience, do you have any advice for today’s young professionals (under 40)?
Adventure, explore, and do all sorts of things. Grow from experiences and don’t just focus on professional accomplishments because you also learn and apply life experiences that will bring as much growth to your life as professional accolades can bring.
