Jake Bawolek, SeQuel Response
IB’s Professional of the Week is the premier way to meet Dane County’s professionals. This week features Jake Bawolek, digital media analyst, SeQuel Response.
What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?
At 23 years old, I have more responsibility than I ever thought I would have in the early years of my career. Being in digital marketing, there is a heavy emphasis on measurable results, and those results are achieved only through relentless innovation. It’s equally challenging and rewarding because of the feeling that comes when I can see the impact of my efforts.
Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?
I get inspired by independent musicians and the work that they go through to push their dreams forward. I think we can all learn from the values they exhibit: authenticity, perseverance, humility, diligence, and craft.
What has been the high point of your career so far?
The high point of my career so far has been the innovation I proposed within my first year of full-time employment with SeQuel. I proposed and implemented modifications to the monthly turnover process for our data dashboards, which reduced our turnover time from eight hours to 45 minutes, with fewer errors.
Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
When you see an opportunity, don’t hesitate. Time is a major constraint and waiting to make a big move comes at a cost.
What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?
Dane County is full of opportunities for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and young businesspeople. Madison offers plenty of activities too for work-life balance.
Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?
I started playing acoustic guitar in March 2020, shortly after the pandemic started. People that know me, know I’m very passionate about music. For those who don’t know that there’s a whole side of me that’s unknown to them.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Buffalo chicken wings, for sure. It’s definitely my kryptonite. Especially on football Sundays!
