Jack Nicklaus to play in AmFam event
One of golf’s most celebrated champions, Jack Nicklaus, will join Brett Favre, Toby Keith, and Madison’s own Andy North in the celebrity, nine-hole celebrity foursome at the American Family Insurance Championship in June, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Nicklaus, 79, has won 18 major championships including six Masters, five PGA Championships, four U.S. Opens, and three British Opens.
For non golfers, it's often Nicklaus’ record in major tournaments that Tiger Woods and all PGA circuit pros have been chasing all of their professional lives, and a sure coup for the tournament, which was founded by American Family and Steve Stricker — another local champion on and off the course — as a fundraiser for area charity organizations.
Meanwhile, the celebrity event will be renamed “The AmFam Champ Celebrity Foursome, hosted by Andy North,” because of North’s contributions to the popular event. Nicklaus’ presence is sure to boost attendance on Saturday, June 22 at University Ridge Golf Course.
Country singer Toby Keith will make two performances that weekend, including a performance the night before at Breese Stevens Field.
