In search of the missing puzzle piece
Ten professionals and 10 teams are competing in the 2015 Get Fit Challenge. Who will earn the healthiest marks? Follow along on Facebook and then find out at the In Business Expo & Conference on Oct. 21. This week, IB checks in with Alexandra Radel, marketing communications specialist for WPS Health Insurance, who is competing in the individual challenge.
For the average person, finding a balance between your work and personal life can be a challenge. When you add fitness into the equation, it can become a real juggling act.
Let’s break it down: I have a career in marketing communications that I love — work bliss. I have a supportive, loving family that I can’t go a day without being thankful for — family bliss. I have an amazing, strappingly good-looking man in my life who makes me laugh every day and sends me roses just because — love bliss.
Do you see a missing piece to the puzzle? Fitness bliss is what completes this big picture, and it’s hard to see the big picture sometimes. You have to choose between what’s easiest and what’s best for you now and long term.
I’m sure the majority of you can relate to my big picture ideology. If so, you will know that adding a fitness regimen into your daily schedule is typically easier said than done. For those of you who have found their unique work, life, and fitness bliss, I envy you.
I started this challenge headstrong and determined to win. So headstrong that I overworked my body and put myself down for six weeks with a fractured knee and sprained ligament. Even when I got back in the gym, I couldn’t put strenuous weight on my knee. That meant no running, jogging, or participating in group fitness classes. If that doesn’t kill your motivation, then I don’t know what will.
As the Get Fit Challenge comes to an end, I think back to my first Get Fit Challenge blog. My fitness goal was to be happy and healthy in my own skin. To me, a true success is being able to look in the mirror and have a positive attitude about my reflection.
Today, I am happy to report that I can see the big picture coming into focus. Down 10 pounds, I have a positive attitude about my body and I smile when I look in the mirror — fitness bliss.
Congratulations to all of the Get Fit Challenge contestants. We are all winners!
