Icons in Business: Emily Gruenewald, Overture Center for the Arts
At the first in-person Icons in Business presentation in over 18 months, Emily Gruenewald, chief development and communications officer for Overture Center for the Arts, offered insight into the Overture’s history, its impact on the community, and the challenges and opportunities facing the performing arts industry.
The Oct. 21 event at the Madison Concourse Hotel was well attended by area professionals eager to resume in-person networking.
Gruenewald is a member of the center’s six-person executive team that guides the organization under an unique shared leadership model. Planning for the Overture Center for the Arts kicked off in 1997 with a $50 million pledge from Philanthropist Jerry Frautschi, an amount that would eventually balloon into a $205 million donation by the time the venue opened in 2004 — the largest single gift to the arts in American history to date. With seven performance centers and five galleries, the center hosts Broadway tours, national and international touring artists, 10 resident companies, and hundreds of local artists each year.
