Hurd Windows expansion could add 100 jobs in Merrill

Hurd Windows and Doors expects to add at least 100 new jobs by early next year as part of an expansion at its Merrill operation, according to a report in the Wausau Daily Herald.

The report said 24 new jobs already have been created at the Merrill factory by the window and door manufacturer, and as much as $1 million could be pumped into the local economy as a result of wages and spending. Most of the new jobs are for assemblers and machinists, and full time positions pay between $9.50 and $12 per hour, plus benefits.

The unemployment rate in Lincoln County stands at 10.1%, well above the state of Wisconsin rate of 6.8% and the national rate of 8.2%. The national employment report for June will be released on Friday morning.
