HotelRED tries, tries again

While plans to add four stories fell through for HotelRED at the corner of Regent and Monroe Streets, the four-story hotel has come back to the Madison Plan Commission with a proposed new design that adds two levels for 40 more hotel rooms and a 5,420-square-foot rooftop lounge with a small bar and limited food service.

Strang Architects is handling the design, which is now 12 feet shorter on the front and 19 feet shorter in back compared to the original proposal.

The Urban Design Commission has reviewed the latest revisions for HotelRED’s expansion, and members reportedly had mixed reviews. Some called the latest design chaotic, or even too red, according to The Capital Times. UDC was not voting on the project, just providing an advisory recommendation to the Plan Commission, which is scheduled to consider the hotel’s plans on Aug. 14.
