Hotel in works for Pahl Tire site
The North Central Group (NCG) of Middleton still wants to develop a hotel on the former Pahl Tire site at the corner of Webster Street and East Washington Avenue in Madison. The group first envisioned a Courtyard by Marriott, but it is now considering a more upscale Marriott boutique brand called AC by Marriott that has proved popular in European countries.
Plans call for a 165-room, 10-story hotel just one block off the Capitol Square. NCG is hoping to break ground yet this year and open in 2016, but a citizen committee in Madison wants to assure that the existing Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired “Lamp House” property in the middle of the block will not be compromised.
In response, NCG has apparently stepped back the hotel’s upper floors so the new structure wouldn’t cast long-shadows upon the Lamp House. It will also provide a path to the Lamp House for potential tours.
NCG has yet to announce the cost of the project, but according to a report in the The Capital Times, it would not seek TIF support.
