Honoring women of industry

From the pages of In Business magazine.

This month, we honor our 2nd annual list of the “25 Most Influential People in Greater Madison,” so we thought it would be a good time to mention another influential group that we plan to recognize in a new awards program. This fall, IB will debut the “Women of Industry” awards with print and online feature stories, along with an awards ceremony during the first week of November.

This program has been several years in the making, as we’ve had many internal discussions about creating a special recognition program for outstanding local women in business. In putting this together, we were careful not to compete with other Madison awards programs that recognize women who are exceptional leaders and mentors in their professions and throughout the community.

Instead, IB will focus this awards program on recognizing women who have had significant industry impact on the local, regional, national, or global stage. We are not looking for accomplishments in one’s own business (we have other award programs for that). Rather, we are looking for forward-thinking women who are pioneers in their respective fields — women who perhaps have set new standards within their industries — from retail and manufacturing to construction and finance.

This is a self-nominated awards program, so we need to hear from you in order to consider you for one of these distinguished awards. Here are some additional details about the awards program:

  • The program is open to women in the following counties: Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Rock, and Sauk.
  • It is open to women with any business title.
  • It is open to women from any industry.
  • The application can be found online at IBMadison.com/womenofindustry. Applicants will be asked to answer questions and provide measurable data and case studies to illustrate industry influence over the past three years.
  • On the application form, we ask for two or three references we can call for more information or to interview if the nominee is selected as a winner.

Applications are currently being accepted online through Sept. 1. If you have any questions about the application process, please email Jessica Hamm at jessica@ibmadison.com.

I know there are countless inspiring stories of area women who have made instrumental impacts in the industries they serve, but in order to recognize them, we need to hear from you!
