Honoring IB’s own Hall of Famer
How do you replace a Hall of Famer? As a sports fanatic, this has always intrigued me. How do franchises cope after losing a superstar athlete like Michael Jordan, or a gun-slinging quarterback like Brett Favre, or even a legendary coach like Phil Jackson? Well, some have done much better than others in this regard, but the one thing that you can never do is replace the memories and experiences that these notable luminaries have provided their organizations, cities, and fan bases.
On June 3, IB said farewell to our very own Hall of Famer, and it’s fitting that we did so just as we prepared to induct our newest class into the IB Hall of Fame.
Jody Glynn Patrick, publisher of In Business magazine for the past 17 great years, has decided to “hang up the spikes,” so to speak. Well, hanging up the spikes may not be the best way to describe Jody’s future, as she is following through on her longtime desire to own her own business consulting company, which she’s already created — Glynn Patrick & Associates, LLC. And I am thrilled to announce that IB has become Jody’s first business client, so she will continue to work with us on projects throughout the year that will further the exciting vision of IB’s multimedia platform. Because of this, you’ll continue to see Jody at IB events and representing the magazine at various gatherings around town. Just refer to her as “publisher emeritus,” the new title she carries on our masthead.
A paragraph or two is certainly not enough space to honor this woman who has done so much for IB in her 17 years at the helm. She received the 2005 Athena Award, was named the 2007 SBA U.S. Business Journalist of the Year, and created a working environment that allowed IB to win a Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award. Her work with the Dane County Salvation Army and the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corp., not to mention many other groups and projects, has also been instrumental in improving the Greater Madison community.
But more importantly, she has been a true mentor to me and so many others who have crossed paths with her throughout the years, and I know that this will only continue as she adds “emeritus” to her title.
(Continued)
I was fortunate to have 10+ years of tutelage under Jody, and I’m even more fortunate to have such an amazing and skilled staff to carry on the legacy that she worked so hard to create. Jody leaves big shoes to fill, and the memories she created will never be forgotten. However, we are poised to take this company to even higher levels because of her leadership.
Thank you, Jody — IB’s true Hall of Famer!
