Honoring homeless softball team

The Beacon Eagles softball team was celebrated during Catholic Charities Night, Aug. 2, with the Madison Mallards. The event’s 50/50 raffle raised over $1,200 for food for The Beacon, Dane County’s day shelter for the homeless. The Eagles were also in attendance to celebrate their season and were able to be a part of the first pitch ceremony. “It was a great season,” notes Jackson Fonder, president and CEO of Catholic Charities of Madison. “The Beacon Eagles might not be remembered in the 2018 season as one of the best teams based on their record, but in my opinion it was a team that had fun, developed skills, formed friendships, and brought a lot of heart to each game. I can honestly say that playing on a coed softball team comprised of people who are homeless, as well as homeless advocates, was one of the highlights of my summer.” For information on getting your event featured in the IB Gallery, email jason@ibmadison.com.)
