Home sales see end-of-year jump

According to the South Central Wisconsin MLS Corp., 445 single-family homes and condominiums were sold in Dane County in December, resulting in a 3.5% increase over December 2013, when 430 properties were sold. It was only the second month in all of 2014 to register a year-over-year increase.

Meanwhile, it’s a seller’s market, with the supply of active listings at just 3.49 months. Six months is usually considered a healthy balance between buyers and sellers.

The median sale price has been steadily climbing, reaching $225,000 in December, up from $205,000 in December 2013 and $194,900 in December 2012.

The average sale price in December was $253,665, up from $247,553 the previous year and $224,141 in December 2012.
