Ho-Chunk sues insurers over pandemic loss claim denials

The Ho-Chunk Nation, operators of casinos, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses in Wisconsin, is suing its insurers over denied claims of pandemic losses, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The business interruption insurance claims brought on by COVID-19 were denied by various insurers and underwriters, including Lloyd’s of London. The lawsuit states the pandemic caused direct physical losses and damages to the tribe’s businesses, which should be covered. Although the lawsuit doesn’t state how much Ho-Chunk is seeking in claims, it does ask for a declaration that its losses are covered by its insurance policies and asks to be awarded compensatory and punitive damages.
