Historic building could delay Bassett neighborhood project

A Keller Real Estate Group mixed-use project slated for the Bassett neighborhood in downtown Madison could be delayed because of a historic building on the site. Demolishing the structure, a Civil War-era building dating back to the mid 1800s, would fly in the face of the 2012 city Downtown Plan, which urges the preservation of certain historic buildings. Keller owns the building, and city staff members have offered to assist Keller in relocating it to make way for the company’s proposed $2.5 million “Nouveau” project, which calls for 18 apartments over ground-floor commercial space. The project is still in the approval phase.
